The subject matter presented in this course was developed with an emphasis on identifying and understanding applicable OSH regulatory standards; hazard based compliance; use of best practices; hazard analysis; hazard controls; risk management; and to provide the knowledge necessary to develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive health & safety program.

Course Highlights: The student will be introduced to the world of OSHA regulations, the OSH ACT, NFPA, NIOSH, EPA, and other regulatory requirements applicable to the FES organization. Additional subject matter will include topics related to inspections, training requirements, risk management strategies, industrial hygiene, information management, reports, accident investigations and other content related to organizational safety & health. The course will also address OSHA updates in fall protection, asbestos/silica, hazard communication, PPE, confined spaces, working surfaces, and others.

This course will also prepare the student to take the Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) certification exam for the Health & Safety Officer using the 2015 edition of NFPA 1521. The Pro-Board HSO written certification exam will be administered through the Fire Department Safety Officer’s Association upon conclusion of the course.

Course fees include the following: OSH in the Emergency Services 4th ed., 29 CFR 1960, ManComm 29 CFR 1910, OSH Act, OSHA manuals, OSHA Fact Sheets, NFPA 1500, course presentation manual, Fire Department Safety Officers membership, and testing fees.
